Men’s Tennis Season Comes to an End After Loss to Thunder

Titans finish with a 5-11 overall record

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team fell, 5-0, in the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin Tournament to No. 3 seeded Wheaton College, Thursday, May 5. The Titans finish their 2021-22 campaign with an overall 5-11 record and a 2-5 league standing. 

In tournament play, the first team to five match points earns the win. With doubles play up first, the Titans were swept at No. 1, 2, and 3 doubles with scores of 8-6, 8-1, and 8-1. Behind by three points, the Thunder quickly capitalized to secure its remaining two points at No. 5 and 6 singles, earning the win and advancing further in the tournament. 

Senior Shanku Nair (Bloomington Ill.-Normal Community) was on a promising start as the only Titan to win a set with a score of 7-6 (4), but could not fit in the second set before the match was called. 

Including Nair, seniors Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) and Justin Piowtrowski (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) capped off their IWU careers in the setback.
