Men’s Tennis Splits Matches in Wisconsin

Titans overpower the Pioneers, 9-0

RACINE / NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team travels back to Bloomington with a win and a loss after its two-match day in Wisconsin Friday, April 8. The Titans secured its first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win this season, 9-0 over Carroll and dropped to Carthage, 9-0.

The Cardinals maintained its perfect CCIW record with a sweep of the Titans in IWU's first match of the day. Although, the Green and White were not finished yet as they took its first conference victory of the season in a clean sweep against the Pioneers. 

During doubles play, IWU won all three points for the Green and White with scores of 8-2, 8-4, and 8-2 at No. 1, 2, and 3 doubles, respectively.

Singles play was no different as each Titan won at least one set with a score of 6-0. At No. 1, 2 and 5 singles, senior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons), junior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High), and senior Shanku Nair (Bloomington Ill.-Normal Community) all swept their games with set scores of 6-0, 6-0, respectively. 

Sophomore Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and fifth-year senior Justin Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) earned IWU match-points at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively by recording scores of 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Jordan Sibley-Digs (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) completed the singles sweep of the pioneers at No. 6 singles, to take his game with scores of 6-0, 6-3.

The Titans are back on the road for a Thursday match against Millikin University April, 14 at 3:30 p.m.
