Baseball Now Set for Four Home Games in Three Days

Titans to play Elmhurst, Carthage, and Wheaton

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action in full-swing, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will embark on a busy stretch, playing four home conference games in three days. The Green and White will first take on Elmhurst College in a twin bill, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. Saturday, April 9. The Titans will then return home to face Carthage College for a single game Sunday, April 10 at 1p.m., that is a make-up from April 2. Finally, IWU will host Wheaton College Monday, April 11, a make-up game from April 8, with a first pitch set for 6 p.m. 

Coming into this weekend's action, the Green and White own an overall record of 10-9 (1-1 CCIW). The Bluejays own a 8-10 (1-3 CCIW) clip, while Carthage sits at 5-15 (0-3 CCIW), and Wheaton possesses a record of 6-12 (3-1 CCIW). 

The Titans last took the field, for the first time, on the newly resurfaced Jack Horenberger Field, Tuesday, April 5. The home opener was spoiled at the hands of No. 9 North Central College as the Cardinals came back from an early deficit to defeat IWU, and to remain undefeated in conference action, by a score of 9-3. 

Elmhurst most recently took on Carroll University Tuesday, April 5. The Pioneers outlasted a Bluejay comeback attack and took the contest by a final score of 11-9. 

The Firebirds also last competed Tuesday, April 5 against Augustana. The Vikings made short work of Carthage, earning a 16-4 victory. CC is set to take on Carroll for a doubleheader, Saturday, April 9. 

Finally, Wheaton defeated Millikin in a tightly contested, 6-5 affair, in a game that also took place Tuesday, April 5. The Thunder are scheduled to take on North Central, in a twin bill, Saturday, April 9. 

Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage will meet for the 110th time on Sunday. The Titans own the slim, 55-54, all-time series advantage. These two teams most recently squared off a week ago, April 3, that saw IWU run away with a 23-1 victory. 

IWU and Wheaton are set to square off in the program's 100th all-time meeting. The Green and White enjoy a 73-26 series cushion that has seen the Titans come out victorious in the previous eight matchups. 

As for the Green and White and Elmhurst over the past three seasons, the Titans and Bluejays have met on the diamond a total of nine times. IWU has come out victorious in seven of the nine meetings. 

Among qualified hitters for the Titans, senior Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred-Heart Griffin), tops the team with his .484 batting average, 1.211 OPS, 31 hits, and is tied for the team lead with two doubles.

Senior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) is having an equally impressive campaign with a .420 batting average. He leads the Green and White with 69 at-bats, 29 runs, and is tied for the team lead with two round-trippers.
