Titans Send Off Seniors with Win Over Elmhurst

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Behind strong play from its seniors, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team toppled Elmhurst University, 7-2, on Senior Day at Evergreen Racquet Club Sunday, April 24. IWU boosted its record to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin, while EU now sits at 6-8 and 1-5 in the conference.

The Titans swept all three doubles matches, with senior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) and sophomore Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) pulling off an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and senior Shanku Nair (Bloomington Ill.-Normal Community) grabbed an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Justin Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) and freshman Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) ran away with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. 

Triantafel outlasted EU's Tomas Bella at No. 1 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, he battled back to take the next two by scores of 6-2 and 10-5. Nair won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, while Piotrowski grabbed a win at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-1. Cross rounded out the wins, overpowering the Bluejays 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

With the regular season complete, IWU now looks ahead to the CCIW Tournament, May 5-7.
