ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team dropped, 6-3, to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Augustana College Saturday, April 16. The Titans moved to 4-9 and 1-3 in the CCIW, as Augie improved to a 4-11 and 2-3 record in the conference.

The Titans came out on top during doubles play, winning matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Fifth-year senior Justin Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) and junior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) did not back down at No. 1 doubles, as the duo took its match with a set score of 8-7 (10-4). Similarly, at No. 2 doubles, senior Shanku Nair (Bloomington Ill.-Normal Community) and sophomore Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) also saw success as the pairing defeated Augie's No. 2 duo, 8-7 (10-4). The Titans headed into singles play with a slight 2-1 advantage.

In singles play the Titans produced one match point courtesy of Nair at No. 4 singles. After dropping 6-1 in the opening set, Nair came back to take the second set, 6-3, to force a third set where the Bloomington native grabbed the match point with another 6-3 set score.

Senior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) and Burk both sent their games into three sets. At No. 1 singles, Triantafel took the first set 6-4, but was halted as the Vikings' Arthur Hermange came back to win the second and third set with scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Burk also started out on the right foot as the Bloomington native won the first set 6-4 but lost the point after dropping 6-1 and 6-4 in the second and third sets.

The Titans return home Saturday, April 23 for its second to last regular season CCIW match against Wheaton College at Beadles Morse Courts. First serve is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
