Smith Named CCIW Offensive Player of the Week

Fourth weekly award for the Frankfort, Ill. native

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln Way East) of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday, April 11. Smith picked up his first weekly award this season and the fourth in his career. He is just the second Titan to be awarded a conference weekly award this season. 
Smith and the Titans competed in two CCIW games this past week against North Central College, April 6 and Carthage College, April 9. Over the two-game span that saw IWU defeat NCC, 16-3 and Carthage, 24-8, Smith picked up a total of nine points. The Frankfort, Ill. native scored a game-high six goals over NCC and added two goals and one assist in the win over Carthage. 
Smith holds the team-high in goals and points with 35 and 47, respectively. The senior has tallied a total of 164 goals in his IWU career so far, which currently puts him fourth in the Titans all-time history, right behind Will Rossi with 174. Smith's current 256 (164-92) career point total, also sits him third in IWU's all-time records behind Nick Winter with 273.
After the week, Smith aided the Titans to a 3-0 CCIW standing, as IWU is the only team that is undefeated in league play this season. He currently sits second in the CCIW in goals per game with 3.18 and third in points per game with 4.27.
The Titans and Smith are back in action Wednesday, April 13 as IWU heads to Rock Island for a game against Augustana College at 7:30 p.m.
