Baseball’s Win Streak Snapped by Thunder

Record sits at 13-10

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team wrapped up a busy stretch of four games in three days with a 15-4 setback against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe, Wheaton College at Horenberger Field Monday. Wheaton halted the Titans' three-game winning streak as IWU's record dipped to 13-10 (4-2 CCIW), while the Thunder climbed to 7-14 (4-3 CCIW).

The Titans notched their first hit of the contest in the fifth inning on a sophomore Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-Lane Tech) single through the ride side with Wheaton leading 9-0. Freshman Casey Swanson (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka) delivered the first RBI for the Green and White as he also singled, allowing junior Ethan Burgh (Arlington, Ill.-Prospect) to cross the plate to create a 9-1 deficit after five innings.

Wheaton tacked on five more runs in the top half of the sixth inning to open up a commanding 14-1 cushion.

IWU showed some late life with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBIs by freshman Tristian Figus (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) and junior Blake Niebrugge (Wastson, Ill.-Effingham St. Anthony) to trim the Thunder lead to 14-4 after six innings.

The Thunder went on to win the contest by a final score of 15-4, in seven innings. WC outhit IWU by a final tally of 13-5.

Freshman Brady Hartman (Milan, Ill.-Sherrard) got the start on the bump for Titans. Hartman tossed three innings of work, allowing five runs, and took the loss (1-2).

The Green and White are scheduled to travel to Wheaton, Ill., Wednesday, April 13, to once again tangle with the Thunder. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
