Baseball Releases Schedule Changes, Will Head to Kenosha for a Single Game Sunday

Wabash game canceled, will make up second Carthage game April 10

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The spring sports schedule madness continues for the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team, as the Titans have overhauled what was a three-game weekend slate to a single game Sunday, April 3. The Green and White will now begin College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action at Carthage College, first pitch is slated for 12 p.m Sunday, April 3. IWU owns a 9-8 record, Carthage comes into the contest with a record of 5-12. 

A new date for the second game of the originally scheduled doubleheader between IWU and Carthage is Sunday, April 10, at Horenberger Field with a 1 p.m. first pitch. The Titans' single, non-conference game, against Wabash that was scheduled for Sunday, April 3, is canceled. 

The Titans and Firebirds will add a new chapter in the historic rivalry on Sunday. The conference foes have squared off a total of 108 previous times with the inaugural matchup taking place May 6, 1989. Both teams have each won 54 games in the balanced rivalry. In the last 10 meetings, IWU holds a slight 6-4 cushion. The last time these two met on the diamond was an 11-7 victory for the Green and White, May 12 of last year.

IWU last traveled to Knox College, Tuesday, March 29. The Titan offense exploded for 17 hits and 23 runs in the seven-inning, 23-4, victory.

The Firebirds last competed Sunday, March 27 in a lopsided 13-1 loss to Illinois Institute of Technology.

Senior Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffin) is the team's batting average leader with a staggering .466 clip. As of March 29, this .466 batting average is good for 46th-best in Division III. The Springfield, Ill. native also leads with 27 hits that includes six two-baggers and two triples. DiLello has also been awarded first base eight times this year via a hit by pitch, leading this category by four.  

Senior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) is also assembling an impressive senior campaign with his .426 batting average. He is the team leader in at-bats with 61, 25 runs scored, nine doubles, and 43 total bases. Among qualified position players, Ranneklev tops the team with his 1.219 OPS. 

Senior Jared Mutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and junior Jalen Ping (Chatham, Ill.-Glenwood) have combined to earn 41 RBI, with Mutter driving in 21 and Ping securing 20.
