Kiichle Garners CCIW Offensive Player of the Week

Titans secure perfect CCIW opener record

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Junior Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday, March 28. This is the Titans first CCIW weekly award this season for men's lacrosse and the second in Kiichle's career.

Kiichle and the Titans opened CCIW play this past weekend Saturday, March 26. IWU faced off against conference newcomer Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. as the Green and White outlasted the Pioneers in an exciting 18-17 overtime win. After Saturday's win, the Titans maintained its perfect CCIW opening record, winning every CCIW opener in program history so far.

The Vancouver, Wash. native led the Titans with six points, credited to his three goals and three assists. The Titans trailed in the second quarter as the Pioneers packed on the goals. IWU was not far behind, keeping the deficit in check for most of the game. It wasn't until a late fourth quarter push where Kiichle assisted teammate Gage Black's goal, to jump start a three-goal run, pulling the Titans within one 16-15.

After a goal by Transy and down by two goals with under a minute remaining, Kiichle stepped up for back-to-back goals at the 35 and three second mark, forcing overtime play.

In overtime, IWU was able to secure the win as Kiichle led the Green and White to another CCIW opener victory.

Kiichle and the Titans return to the field Saturday, April 2 for a game against Aurora University. The game, which is set for a 3:30 p.m. start inside Tucci Stadium, will be part of a full day of Titan athletics supporting St. Jude.
