Baseball Announces Schedule Changes, Will Head to Wabash for a Double Dip

Games will be played Sunday, March 27

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Due to the field work and weather conditions, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team's games against Wabash College originally scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, March 25-26 have been altered. IWU will now play a doubleheader in Crawfordsville, Ind. Sunday, March 27 beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The final game of the series, which was scheduled for March 27 in Crawfordsville, will now be played at Horenberger Field, Sunday, April 3 with a first pitch of 12 p.m. 

Coming into the non-conference matchup, the Green and White, who are winners of eight of its last 10 games, own an 8-6 record. The Little Giants record sits at 10-2 on the year.

The Titans and Little Giants have previously played each other a total of five times in a rivalry that began in 2000. The Green and White own a 4-1 series advantage as the last meeting took place March 30, 2014 that saw IWU win by the final score of 11-9.

IWU last competed in the week-long RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Green and White enjoyed a 6-1 record in the Sunshine State by out scoring its opponents 89-27 that included two short games. The trip was highlighted by junior Scott Monocchio's (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) first-career complete game shutout against Ripon College, March 17. The Glen Ellyn, Ill. native's career day on the bump earned him College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Pitcher of the Week award, March 21. 

On the flip side, the Little Giants last took to the diamond Wednesday, March 23 against Earlham College. Wabash out slugged the Quakers by the final score of 14-10. 

On the year, senior Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffin) leads the offensive charge with a team-leading .469 average. Additionally, he is tied for the team lead with 23 hits and two doubles, while the Springfield, Ill. native is tied for second on the team with 14 runs scored. 

Senior Jared Mutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) is having an equally impressive senior campaign. The Titan backstop is second on the team with an average of .460, while leading the offense with his team-leading 19 driven in and is tied for the team lead with 23 hits.

Additionally, senior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) tops the Titans with his 35 total bases on the year that equates to notching the third-most hits on the squad with 22. 

The offense has generated a combined average of .356 that includes 171 hits, 46 doubles, five triples, six home runs, and 102 runs batted in. 

On the bump, senior Jacob Duffy (Pontiac, Ill.-Pontiac) has thrown 21 innings of work, the most on the staff. The senior has a 3.43 ERA that includes an unblemished 2-0 record. The Pontiac, Ill. native has sat down opponents a total of 20 times via the strikeout. 

Monocchio leads the staff with his 2.81 ERA in 16 innings toeing the rubber this season that includes 19 strikeouts, 12 hits, and only five earned runs.
