Men’s Tennis Defeats Colby-Sawyer in Final Day of Florida Trip

Titans return to Bloomington for its CCIW opener April, 2

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team defeated Colby-Sawyer College 6-3 in its final day of IWU's spring break trip to Florida Thursday, March 17. The Titans moved to 3-4 on the year as the Mustangs dropped 2-5.

The Titans used built off of yesterday's 8-1 win over Stevenson University, for its morning match with the Mustangs. The Green and White swept doubles play against CSC and won at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles.

Senior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) and junior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) paired back up at No. 1 doubles to take their match 8-2. First-time duo, fifth-year senior Justin Piotrowski (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) and senior Shanku Nair (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) grabbed a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Another new pairing of sophomore Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and freshman Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a match score of 8-2. 

In singles play, Nair, Piotrowski, and Cross secured the victory for the Titans after wins at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, respectively. Nair won with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Piotrowski grabbed his third out of four solo wins this season at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Cross put the bow on the box after winning his match with set scores of 6-2 and 6-1. 

The Titans return to Bloomington for College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Saturday, April 2 as they host North Central College.
