Record-Setting Performance Secures Onsrud Medalist Honors at Westbrook Invite

Titans place fifth as a team in loaded field

PEORIA, Ariz. - Sophomore Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) claimed medalist honors in a loaded field at the Westbrook Invite play at the par-71, 5810-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Lakes Course Sunday, March 13 as she set the program's 36-hole record. After setting the school's single-round standard alongside fellow sophomore Emma Thorman, (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) a day prior, the duo led the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team to a fifth-place finish.

Onsrud carded a one-over 72 to finish two-under for the tournament with a 36-hole score of 140. A career-best score over two rounds, Onsrud broke the record established by Thorman at the Warburg Fall Invite Sept. 11-12. The victory marks the second of the season for the sophomore, who also claimed the top spot at the Dechert Classic this past fall.

Thorman reeled in a third-place finish. The Macomb, Ill. native recorded a two-day total of 145 to finish three over on the weekend. It is the seventh top-five finish of her career.

George Fox, who entered the weekend ranked No. 3 according to GolfStat and sits fifth in the WGCA Coaches Poll, won its own invite with a score of 596 (297-299). Ninth-ranked Redlands placed second (301-298=599), while No. 11 Claremont Mudd Scripps (303-301=604) and 18th-ranked Trinity (307-297=604) tied for third. IWU finished fifth with a second day score of 307 to finish with a two round total of 610. Bethel (307-313=620), No. 25 UC Santa Cruz (314-308=622), and Bethel's 'B' team (347-338=685) took sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.

The Green and White's spring break trip continues as IWU heads to Plano, Texas to compete in UT-Dallas' Texas Cup tournament Saturday-Sunday, March 19-20, at Watters Creek Golf Club.
