Men’s Tennis Opens 2022 with Two-Game Trip to Iowa

Titans face St. Ambrose and Wartburg

2/10/2022 12:30:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team begins its 2022 portion of the season with a two-match invite hosted at St. Ambrose University Saturday, Feb. 12. The Titans will play Wartburg College at 12 p.m. before squaring off with the Fighting Bees at 3 p.m.

IWU last competed as a unit during the Wabash Hidden Duals, Sept. 25-26. More recently, senior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.- Lagrange Lyons) and junior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament Oct. 1-3. Triantafel moved on to the consultation 16-draw bracket before falling to Division III Greenville's Andres Sanchez in the next round.

Before stepping onto the court against the Titans, Wartburg is scheduled to play Wisconsin Lutheran College and MSOE on Friday Feb. 11, in addition to facing St. Ambrose at 9 a.m. Feb. 12. IWU and Wartburg will play for the first time during Saturday's match.

It's been a long time coming as St. Ambrose and the Titans last competed back in the 2014-15 season. The Titans hold the advantage in the all-time series, 5-1 dating back to the 2008 campaign as Saturday's match will mark the seventh time the two squads play each other.

Results from the day will be posted to iwusports.com following the completion of each match.
