Women’s Soccer to Host NCC in CCIW Tournament Championship Showdown

Game scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Neis Field

11/4/2022 12:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship is just around the corner for the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team. The No. 1 seeded Titans (9-4-3) host the No. 2 seeded North Central College (12-1-5) at Neis field Saturday, Nov. 5 for a 3 p.m. kickoff. IWU, a four-time tournament champion, looks to make it five over NCC.

IWU, whose season ended last year in the conference semifinals to the Cardinals, soared past this season's semifinal after a 4-0 decision against No. 4 seeded Carroll University Wednesday, Nov. 2. The Titans were led by sophomore Tegan Timerman (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) who notched two goals, a single-game career-high for the Peoria, Ill. native. Timerman was joined by seniors Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) and Rachel White (Naperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley) who each notched one goal and one assist.

The Titans 4-0 victory marked the seventh time this season IWU shutout its opponents. It is also the eighth game out of 16 where the goal margin has been a three-or-more in favor of the Green and White.

The Cardinals advanced to the finals after a 1-0 win over No. 3 seeded and defending CCIW Tournament Champion, Wheaton College, Wednesday, Nov. 2. A penalty kick was awarded to the Cardinals in the 76th minute and was enough to punch them through.

Dating back to 2002, Saturday's game will be the 14th time IWU has competed in the championship match. It is the first time the Titans and Cardinals will meet in the final round of tournament play and just the second time NCC sees a championship game.

The Green and White have seen NCC a total of 31 times since the 1994 campaign. Most recently, the two teams squared off in IWU's last regular season conference game Oct. 22. The Titans and Cardinals ended in a 3-2 late-minute win for NCC, and marked the only conference loss on the Titans' schedule.

The game will be available via live stats and live stream. Live stats can be found here and the live stream can be accessed here. For more information about the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament, including schedules and ticket prices, visit the CCIW Tournament Central page here.
