Titans look ahead to CCIW Competition, Dec. 2-3

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted their annual IWU Invite Saturday, Nov. 19. The women's team placed second out of the tri-meet with a final tally of 75, while the men also earned second with a score of 67.

For both the men and women, Washington University in St Louis earned first place recording scores of 145 on the women's side and 123 on the men. Principia College rounded out the competition in third with scores of 20 for the women and eight for the men.

For the men, junior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill. - Normal Community) touched in second and third-place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle, respectively. In the 50 free Lowder, the Titans program-record holder, recorded a final time of 21.94 and touched in a 49.59 in the 100 free to garner third place.

On the women's side, fellow junior Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill. - Maine South) capitalized in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.70 to earn second. Freshman Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill. - Batavia) and junior Jackie Rae Kelch (Peoria, Ill. - Notre Dame) followed Wajda, in third and fourth, respectively. Wajda also notched a top-three finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.27, the fastest time this season for the Titans.

Sophomore Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill. - University), IWU's 100 yard breaststroke record holder, earned a time of 1:08.62 in the event, good for a second-place finish.

The Titans will cap off its 2022 portion of the season at the Carthage College Invite, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, before heading on their annual Florida winter training trip Dec. 29-Jan. 9.
