Men’s Soccer Sinks in Clash with Carroll

Titans welcome Millikin Wednesday, Oct. 12

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team came up short 2-1 in its senior day match against Carroll University Saturday, Oct. 11. The Titans dipped to 4-6-2 overall and 1-3 in conference play as Carroll moved to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

While Carroll looked to hold most of the possession, a fairly even attack from both sides saw IWU record 13 shots with four on target compared to the Pioneers 16 shots and five on frame. Freshman Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) recorded three saves in between the posts for the Green and White, while the Pio's keeper also picked up three saves.

The Pioneers got off to a quick start as they took an early 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game. Freshman Joshua Cox (Encinitas, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy) capitalized on a Carroll error as the Pioneers goalkeeper fumbled a back pass from his defender. Cox quickly hopped on top of the chance and earned the equalizer with just over seven minutes to go in the first half.

Entering the second 45 tied one-all, it wasn't until the 51st minute Carroll's Josh Gonzaga, who notched CU's first goal, earned his second and game-winner as CU took a 2-1 lead. Another equalizer chance seemed to be in the midst for the Titans. With just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, senior Will Quane (Milford, Mich.-Milford) sent a free kick right into the box, but was eventually stopped by the Pioneer defense.

The Titans were not able to bounce-back as the match ended in favor of the Pios 2-1.

IWU returns home Wednesday, Oct 12 to take on Millikin University. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Neis Field.
