ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A slow start plagued the Illinois Wesleyan University football team in a 59-14 loss to Washington University in St. Louis Saturday, Oct. 8, at Francis Olympic Field. The Titans record dropped to 3-2 on the year and 2-2 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with the loss, while WashU remains undefeated at 5-0 (4-0 CCIW).  
 
The Bears scored the game's first 42 points, tallying 21 in each of the first two quarters, to take a 42-0 edge in halftime. The Titans came out strong in the second half, scoring on two passing plays, but WashU tacked on 17 fourth-quarter points to down the Titans, 59-14.
 
As a team, IWU finished with 278 yards of total offense, 255 of which came through the air. Meanwhile, the Bears compiled 620 yards on the day. WashU net 305 rushing yards and 315 passing yards.
 
The Titans used a trio of quarterbacks in the game, with sophomore 
Ryan Saxe (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) getting the start. He went 11-for-15 for 104 yards before sophomore
 Jay Lemenager (Clifton, Ill.-Clifton) entered the game. Lemenager finished 7-for-15 for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Myles Kee (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis Priory) recorded his third 100-yard receiving game of the year, as he went for 110 yards on six catches, including a 79-yard touchdown. Senior 
Charlie Hamilton (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) caught five passes for 73 yards and a score.
 
Defensively, three Titans registered double-digit stops. Senior
 Anthony Wachal Jr. (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) racked up a career-high 16 stops, including 0.5 for loss. Junior linebacker 
Joshua Klein (Glen Carbon, Ill.-Edwardsville) tallied 13 stops, two of which were for loss, while sophomore 
Artist Benjamin (Wilmette, Ill.-Loyola Academy) added 11 tackles and two pass breakups.
 
Illinois Wesleyan returns home Saturday, Oct. 15, as host to North Park University. The CCIW clash is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Tucci Stadium.
