Women’s Volleyball Returns Home to Face Cardinals

Titans to host North Central College Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University's women's volleyball team is set to host North Central College Wednesday, Oct. 5. First serve of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin battle is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Shirk Center. 

The Titans (10-6, 2-1 CCIW) are 23-13 all-time against the Cardinals (8-4, 3-1 CCIW) and have won the last six battles, dating back to Oct. 28, 2015. The most recent victory came on Oct. 6, 2021 when Illinois Wesleyan won in four close sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 28-26) on its home court.

IWU enters off a loss to Coe College in five sets (26-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 10-15) Oct. 1 at the Cornell Quadrangular. Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) led the match with a career-best 25 kills and was named to the all-tournament team. Meanwhile, North Central defeated Carroll University Sept. 30, with set scores 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15. 

Offensively, French leads the Green and White with 222 kills in her freshman campaign, averaging 3.58 kills per set, and leads the CCIW in service aces with 0.65 aces per set. Sophomore Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) has helped orchestrate the offense with a team-leading 331 assists, averaging 5.24 assists per set. 

On the defensive side, junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) has a team-high 343 digs in 62 sets, leading the CCIW with 5.53 digs per set. Junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) has posted 46 blocks for the Green and White, 14 of which were solo. Senior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) joins Babec at the top of the net with 40 rejections, nine of which were solo.
