Women’s Volleyball Set to Host Wheaton in Must-Win CCIW Match

First serve scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Shirk Center

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the first time in 20 days, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will play inside the Shirk Center. The Titans (14-10, 2-4 CCIW) enter a crucial week as they host College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Wheaton College in a must-win match Tuesday, Oct. 25. A win over the Thunder (10-14, 2-5 CCIW) will keep IWU's chance of a postseason appearance alive. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan enters off a win over University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Titans defeated the Blue Devils (11-15, 1-5 WIAC) in five sets (25-13, 26-24, 24-26, 24-26, 15-13) Saturday, Oct. 22, to conclude the CCIW-WIAC Crossover Tournament in Stevens Point, Wis. Wheaton enters off a loss to No. 15 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, dropping the match in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-11, and 25-18, Saturday, Oct. 22. 

IWU landed two on the CCIW-WIAC Crossover All-Tournament team after a 2-1 performance. Sophomore Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) and junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) were honored following their strong performances over the weekend. Erdman accumulated 76 assists, 27 digs, three aces, and two kills, including a career-best 35 assists in the victory over the Blue Devils. Washko notched 59 digs and five aces in the three matches. Her four aces in the sweep of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse tied a career-high for the junior. 

The Green and White are led offensively by freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East). In her first collegiate season, French has recorded 317 kills for an average of 3.52 kills per set, second-best in the CCIW. The Romeoville, Ill. native only trails North Park University's Adriana Rodriguez, who's average of 5.00 kills per set is second-best in the nation. French leads the league in service aces with an average of 0.68 aces per set. Erdman has been the mastermind behind the Titan offense with 526 assists in her breakout sophomore season. 

Defensively, Washko leads the conference with 506 digs for an average of 5.44 digs per set. Junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) and senior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) continue to wreak havoc at the net for the Titans. Babec has notched 79 blocks in her solid junior campaign. Makris has 62 blocks in her final season for the Green and White.
