BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will make the trip to the Windy City to face College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe North Park University Wednesday, Oct. 12. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the North Park Gymnasium.
Illinois Wesleyan (12-7, 2-2 CCIW) enters off two sweeps in the WashU Tournament this past Saturday, Oct. 8, after taking down Illinois College and Luther College. Most recently, North Park (16-6, 3-2 CCIW) was swept by No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Oct. 8.
Wednesday's match will mark the 38th time the two teams have faced off, with the series dating back to 1994. IWU holds a 36-1 advantage over the Vikings, and has won the last nine matches. The most recent victory came on Sept. 29, 2021 when the Titans defeated North Park on the road in five sets. Then-sophomore Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) recorded a match-high 21 digs.
Washko leads the CCIW with an average of 5.53 digs per set, as she has recorded 404 in 73 sets in her strong junior campaign. The Titans' defense will be put to the test as they try to stop North Park's Adrianna Rodriguez, who is currently second in the nation with 4.90 kills per set. Junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) looks to help stop Rodriguez and the Vikings, as she has notched a team-best 60 blocks, 17 of which have been solo stuffs.
Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) leads the team offensively, recording an impressive 253 kills in 70 sets. Her average of 3.61 kills per set is the second-best in the conference behind Rodriguez. The Romeoville, Ill. native leads the conference in service aces with an average of 0.61 per set, as she has recorded 43 in 70 sets.
Sophomore Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley), freshman
Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis.-Pewaukee), and junior
Jordan Pierce (Bonfield, Ill.-Herscher) have been the masterminds behind the Titan offense. Erdman has racked up 404 assists in her second season for the Green and White. Gund and Pierce have recorded 191 and 134 assists, respectively.
