Women’s Soccer Travels North for Battle with UW-Whitewater

Game time is set for 6 p.m.

10/10/2022 12:15:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A non-conference road match is up next for the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team as the Titans take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Tuesday, Oct. 11. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Robert Fiskum Field. The Titans will close out the regular season on the road as Tuesday's game kicks off a five-game road trip for the Green and White.

The Titans hold an overall record of 6-1-3 on the season and sit atop the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings with a 4-0-1 league record. UW-Whitewater is 7-3-3 overall and holds a 2-1 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clip.

The Green and White is over halfway through its conference slate, with only three more CCIW contests to go after facing the Warhawks. This past week the Titans defeated Augustana College, 3-0 Oct. 5 and tied Carroll University 1-1, on senior day, Oct. 8. IWU's 3-0 win over Augie marked the fifth-straight game the Titans did not let up a goal. Goalkeeper Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove) and the IWU defense's no-goal streak moved to 531 minutes as the last goal scored to jump start IWU's no-goal run was in the UW-LaCrosse match, Sept. 11.

However, the run came to an end this past weekend as the Green and White drew against the Pioneers, 1-1. An early goal for Carroll in the 12th minute put the Titans behind for the first time since IWU faced Wartburg College, Sept. 10. Senior Jenna Li (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Christian) tied the game in the 25th minute which capped the scoring and ended the match in a draw. Whitewater will also take a pause in conference play to face the Titans. Most recently, the Warhawks faced a 1-0 loss to UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 8.

IWU and Whitewater have an all-time series record of 6-3-1 in favor of the Green and White. Over the most recent contests, the Titans and Warhawks have a history battling in the NCAA Tournament. In IWU's 2015 season, the two teams faced twice, once in the Titans' season opener, Sept. 1 and in the NCAA Tournament. In the 2015 season opener the Titans left the match with a 1-0 victory. The Green and White would then go on to face the Warhawks again, this time in the NCAA Tournament in the sectional round. However, after an overtime win, it was the Wahawks who came out on top, 2-1 Nov. 21, to knock the Titans out of the tournament.

Most recently, the Titans faced UW-Whitewater in 2019 during the opening regional round of the NCAA Tournament, Nov. 11 in Minnesota. Another overtime win, this one 2-1, decided what team would move on to the next round. This time IWU came out victorious as Heather Dietrich (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute, assisted by Rachel White (Naperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley)
