Titans improve to 9-1 in the CCIW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Elmhurst University Wednesday night, Jan. 26, with an 85-60 victory inside the Shirk Center. The Titans are now 12-7 on the season, highlighted by a 9-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin mark, while Elmhurst stumbled to 2-16, 0-10 in league play.

She also rounded out the box score with a team-high six assists and tied for the team lead with three steals. Also finishing in double figures were freshman Kate Palmer (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) and senior Catie Eck (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin), who tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The big turnover differential led to a 42-13 advantage in points off turnovers for the Green and White.

Illinois Wesleyan raced out to a 10-0 lead, as Huber hit a putback with 7:23 to play in the first quarter. Elmhurst ended a nearly four-minute scoring drought with a triple at the 6:06 mark, but a swipe and score from junior Katelyn Heller (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) pushed IWU ahead by 13, 18-5.

Entering the second quarter with a 22-9 lead, the Green and White saw the Bluejays pull within single digits. An offensive putback by Carlson gave IWU a 10-point cushion, and was followed by a jumper from Eck.

Back-to-back steals by Carlson turned into baskets for the Titans, as Lansford converted a triple and Heller hit a jumper to up the Illinois Wesleyan lead to 36-19 with 4:24 to go in the half.

After leading by as many as 29 in the first half, Palmer's three-pointer with 3:41 to go in the third gave the Titans their largest lead of the night, 72-29.

The Green and White ran away with things from there, securing its ninth conference win of the season and completing the regular season sweep of the Bluejays, 85-60.
