Women’s Soccer Readies for Washington & Lee Invitational

Titans take on Bridgewater and Washington & Lee in weekend matches

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team travels to Lexington, Va. for the Washington & Lee Invitational Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 4-5. After a double overtime victory against Simpson College Wednesday, Sept. 1 the Titans look to improve on their 1-0 record.

The Green and White will face Bridgewater College Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET and Washington & Lee University Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.

The Titans will see Bridgewater for the first time in program history with Saturday's game being the season opener for the Eagles after a match was postponed earlier this week.

Similarly, the Generals and Titans will meet for the first time on Sunday, Sept. 5. Both teams hold a 1-0 overall record as W&L beat Southern Virginia, 2-0 in its season opener Wednesday Sept. 1. Washington & Lee will play Pfeiffer on Saturday before squaring off against the Titans on Sunday.

Sophomore Lauren Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) leads the Green and White with four points after Wednesday's match against Simpson. The junior not only scored the game-winning goal in double overtime, but also set up two Titan goals in a back and forth match. Senior Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) also had an impressive night with a goal and an assist.
