BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team is gearing up to host thel Holiday Inn Classic II Friday-Saturday, Sept. 24- 25. The Green and White will welcome Aurora University, No. 5 Calvin University, No. 7 Hope College, and Mount St. Joseph University to the Shirk Center.
IWU's current record stands at 6-7, including a 1-1 record in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. Most recently, CCIW opponent Wheaton College took down Illinois Wesleyan in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-15) Wednesday, Sept. 22.
The team will play two matches Friday, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. against Mount St. Joseph and No. 5 Calvin, respectively. Mount St. Joseph enters the tournament with a 9-3 record, while No. 5 Calvin enters Bloomington with an impressive 13-1 record.
On Saturday, the Titans will tangle with No. 7 Hope College at 3 p.m. to wrap up tournament play. The Flying Dutch are enjoying a 9-1 record.
The IWU offense has been led by senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont), who paces the Titans with 114 kills and 46 blocks. Her numbers are good for 2.97 points a set along with a .274 season hitting percentage.
Junior Grace Sanders (Bloomington, Ill - Bloomington) is second on the team in kills and digs. Sanders has notched 87 kills to go along with 146 digs.
Senior Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill. - Wheaton St. Francis), junior
Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill. - Sandburg), and sophomore
Maddie Dryfhout (Orland Park, Ill. - Chicago Christain) round out the top-five kill leaders for the Titans with 82, 73, and 69 kills, respectively.
Senior libero Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill. - Normal U High) has accumulated 175 digs for the season to lead the Green and White. McCall has 84 digs on the year, while senior
Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) has added 83.
Corey and freshman Ava Porada (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) have proved to become a lethal setting duo in IWU's 6-2 system. Corey has 243 assists, while Porada has 217 assists to go along with her team-leading 22 service aces.
For the season, IWU owns a 584-551 kill advantage over its competition along with a 557-514 edge in assists. The Titans have been effective at the service line to own an 89-74 ace lead.
