Titans Silenced by Thunder

IWU hosts Holiday Inn Classic II this weekend, Sept. 24-25

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team was taken down in straight sets by Wheaton College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Wednesday night, Sept. 22, inside the Shirk Center. The Titans fell by set scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-15 as their record dropped to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in CCIW competition. Wheaton improved to 7-7 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

Illinois Wesleyan out-blocked Wheaton, 8-3, and notched a 41-38 lead in digs, but the Thunder held the upper hand in kills (34-27) and aces (7-4).

Junior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) topped the Titans with seven kills, while sophomore Maddie Dryfhout (Orland Park, Ill.-Chicago Christian) added six on a .357 attacking percentage. 

Senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) notched a team-high four blocks, while Makris and Dryfhout added three apiece. Senior libero Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) recorded a team-high nine digs.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to the court as hosts of the Holiday Inn Express Classic II this weekend, Sept. 24-25. IWU begins play against Mount St. Joseph University Friday, Sept. 24, at 4:30 p.m. The Titans then take on fifth-ranked Calvin University at 7 p.m., before wrapping up the tournament against No. 7 Hope College Saturday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m.
