Women’s Soccer Shutout by UW-La Crosse

Titans travel to Dubuque, Iowa for game against Loras Saturday, Sept. 18

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team was shutout, 4-0, on the road by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Sunday, Sept. 12. The Titans are 1-4 overall, while the Eagles are now 3-1-1.

IWU was under pressure to open the game as the Eagles squeezed one past the Titans' five minutes into the contest, to put UWL up 1-nil.

The Titans had a close opportunity moments later, as senior Rachel White (Naperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley) placed a free kick into the box, but the Eagles goalkeeper got to it first before IWU could get a piece of it. Around the 12 minute mark the Eagles got on the end of their own free kick to widen the gap 2-0 with 33 minutes to go in the first half.

Trailing 2-0, IWU created multiple opportunities in the second half as it outshot UWL 8-4 (5-2 SOG). At the forefront was senior Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) with a game-high three shots on goal and four in total. With the Titans unable to capitalize on opportunities, the Eagles tallied on an additional goal to take a 3-0 lead off a corner kick around the 51 minute mark. Late in the game with under two minutes to go the Eagles scored their fourth and final goal of the day to cap the 4-0 loss.

The Titans forced the UWL goalkeeper to make a total of nine saves, but in the end the deficit was too much for the Green and White.

The Titans continue their road trip in Dubuque, Iowa to face Loras College next Saturday, Sept. 18 for a 5 p.m game.
