Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Loras

Titans are back at home Tuesday, Sept. 21

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell 3-2 in a non-conference matchup against Loras College Saturday, Sept. 11. The Titans dropped to 0-3, while Loras moved to 3-1-1.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead after senior Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) opened the scoring just four minutes into the game. Fellow senior Trevor Martin (San Diego, Calif.-St. Augustine) crossed the ball to find Kokes on the back end of it. IWU outshot the Duhawks 11-8 in the first half, as Kokes goal gave the Titans the 1-0 advantage to end the first 45.

In the second half, a penalty kick was drawn by senior Donovan Malone (Houston, Texas-St.Pius X). Kokes stepped up to the penalty spot and secured his second goal of the night, to give IWU a 2-0 lead.

The game was far from over through, as Duhawks closed the gap with two goals, just five minutes apart, to tie the game 2-2 with 25 minutes remaining on the clock. Shortly after, the Titans could not hold off the Duhawks once more, as Loras took a 3-2 lead around the 70 minute mark.

After multiple late chances, the Titans could not even the score resulting in a 3-2 loss.
