BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team will host Simpson College Wednesday Sept. 1 at Neis Field for its 2021 season opener, kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
The Titans enter the season with head coach Keri Sanchez at the helm. In addition to junior transfer
Jenna Li (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Christian School) and sophomore transfer
Sarah Johnson (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln Way East), the Titans also welcomed nine freshmen.
The Green and White will face the Storm for the second time in program history, with the latest matchup coming back in 2001. The Titans went on to win 2-0.
The Titans come back after a non-traditional conference-only season in 2020. Senior Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) led the 2020 Titans in points with six, credited to the team-high three goals.
Having only two countable matches and a handful of exhibitions in the 2020 season the Green and White produced a 2-0 record, with both wins against Millikin by 3-1 tallies.
In the 2019 season, the Titans outlasted Augustana College in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship to push them into the NCAA Division III Tournament. IWU battled UW-Whitewater in a 2-1 overtime victory during the first round but were stopped by St. Thomas in the second round.
