Illinois Wesleyan to Host First Two Rounds of NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament

Titans take on Northwestern-St. Paul in opening round Friday, May 14, at Tucci Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - One day after winning its fourth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team learned it would play host to the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday-Saturday, May 14-15. The Titans will take on the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in the first round Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. Completing the IWU pod will be Hope College and Benedictine University who will square off following the Titans' first round game at 4 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan is in the 31-team field as one of 28 automatic qualifiers. With a thrilling 18-17 overtime win over North Central in the CCIW Tournament Championship, May 8, IWU heads into the tournament boasting a 13-1 record.

The Titans are no strangers to the postseason, having qualified for the national tournament in , 2017, 2018, and 2019. IWU, which hosted Rhodes in the first round in 2019, holds a 1-3 record in the tournament.

UNM  is one of three teams to venture into Tucci Stadium for the start of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles sit at 7-3 overall and gained an automatic bid after a 17-4 win in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament Championship game over Monmouth College Sunday, May 8. With the win, the Eagles secured their first-ever automatic bid and conference tournament title. 

Hope, from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, secured its second NCAA Tournament bid after a 19-13 win over Albion in the MIAA Tournament, May 7. The Flying Dutchmen hold a 12-1 record and currently rank sixth in the Region V rankings. 

Coming from the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference is Benedictine. The Eagles beat out Aurora in the conference tournament championship game, 10-8, May 1 to secure their first-ever NCAA automatic bid. It was just the second win over the Spartans in program history. BU enters Tucci Stadium with a 13-2 record and sits eighth in the Region V rankings. 

Hope (12-1) will play Benedictine (13-2) in the other first round game in IWU's pod, with the winner advancing to play the winner of the IWU-UNW tilt in the second round Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m.

Quarterfinal and semifinal round play will take place on the campuses of RIT and Salisbury, May 22-23. The national championship game will be played at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., May 30.

Spectator Policy
Spectators for the NCAA Tournament games will be limited to those on the student-athlete pass list only to accommodate for fans of both teams. Home fans will have seating available in the southwest half of the main bleachers, along with the horseshoe. Visiting fans will be seated on the southeast half of the main stands along with the bleachers on the north side of the field. Additionally, all spectators will be required to wear masks when inside Tucci Stadium.
