Titans Face Firebirds, Big Blue in Final Week of Regular Season

CCIW Tournament kicks off next week

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team closes out the regular season with a single game against Carthage College Wednesday, May 12, and a three-game set against Millikin University Friday-Saturday, May 14-15. First pitch versus the Firebirds is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Horenberger Field. IWU and MU will also square off at Horenberger Friday, May 14, at 6 p.m., while the series will wrap up with a doubleheader in Decatur Saturday.

Illinois Wesleyan looks to get off the schneid this week and improve on its seeding ahead of next week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament. The Titans sit at 16-20 overall and 11-17 in the CCIW. IWU is tied for sixth in the conference standings, while Carthage sits one game back of the Titans. The Firebirds enter the week 15-21 on the season, 10-18 in the conference. Meanwhile, Millikin is 24-13 overall, and holds a 17-12 CCIW mark.

Junior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) leads Illinois Wesleyan with a .377 batting average, and is also the team leader in hits (55), doubles (10), triples (4), and RBIs (27). As a team, IWU has outhit opponents 368-353 on the year and holds a team batting average of .296, which ranks second-best in the CCIW.

Carthage leads the season series against IWU, 2-1. The two squads split a doubleheader in Kenosha, Wis., April 11, as IWU bounced back from an 11-4 setback to take game two 5-3. The Firebirds held off the Titans 6-3 in a single game April 12.

IWU and Millikin have met just once this season, a single game at Horenberger Field, March 24. The Big Blue upended the Titans, 8-3.

First pitch for Wednesday night's midweek clash is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be watched via live stream by clicking here. Live stats will also be available here. The three-game set with Millikin kicks off with a 6 p.m. first pitch Friday, May 14, at Horenberger Field. Saturday's double dip is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
