Baseball Bested by Bluejays

Titans now 16-14 overall, 11-11 in the CCIW

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team was downed 14-1 in seven innings by Elmhurst University Thursday evening, April 29, at Butterfield Park. The Titans struck first, but could not avoid the Bluejays' big innings in the loss.

IWU falls to 16-14 on the season with the setback, and is now an even 11-11 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. EU improved to 15-17, 10-14 in the CCIW with the win.

Senior Dan Cerniglia (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) extended his reached base streak to eight games with a RBI single in the second inning to put the Titans on top 1-0.

Illinois Wesleyan's lead was short lived though, as Elmhurst used a solo homer to even the score at 1-1.

The Bluejays piled it on in the fourth and fifth innings to bust the game open. EU scored six runs on five hits and an error in the fourth before adding five runs on four hits and two errors in the fifth to go up 12-1.

A pair of runs in the sixth pushed the deficit to 14-1 into IWU's final at bats, where the Green and White went down in order.

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action at home Saturday, May 1, for a doubleheader against Carroll University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Horenberger Field.
