Baseball Swept at North Park

Titans and Vikings play at Horenberger tomorrow at 1 p.m.

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team suffered a pair of conference losses at North Park University Friday, April 2. IWU fell by scores of 11-1 and 8-7, as the Titans' record dipped to 9-9 on the season.

Game One: Illinois Wesleyan 1, North Park 11 (7 inn.)
North Park took the lead in the second on a RBI single and added two more runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth.

The Vikings tacked on four more in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth to put the deficit at 11-0 for the Titans.

Senior Jake Moran (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Richards) plated Illinois Wesleyan's lone run in the seventh, poking a single through the left side to score one.

Game Two: Illinois Wesleyan 7, North Park 8
The Titans tallied 13 hits in the second game, out-hitting the Vikings 13-11. Juniors Cole Greer (Springfield, Ill.-Pleasant Plains) and Jack Schneider (Naperville, Ill.-Benet Academy), and senior Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) each notched three hits apiece. Greer went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Schneider finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while DiLello went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.

The Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second. Sophomore Ethan Burgh (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) got the big inning started with a double to right. DiLello followed with a single, putting runners on the corners for Schneider. The junior whacked a double down the left field line to score Burgh. Greer then traded places with Schneider, doubling to right center, to up IWU's advantage to 3-0. Another two-bagger, this time off the bat of junior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley), pushed the lead to 4-0.

After a scoreless third, the Titans tacked on another in the top of the fourth. Greer tripled to left center and scored on Jacob Cyrus' (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) infield single, upping the IWU cushion to 5-0.

North Park got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of a solo homer, to cut the lead to 5-1.

IWU plated a pair of runs in the seventh, but NPU promptly responded with four runs on three hits and an error. A bases loaded triple scored three, and an error allowed the Vikings to pull within two, 7-5.

The Titans held a slim 7-6 edge into the ninth, where the Vikings ripped a single up the middle to walk-off with an 8-7 victory.

IWU and NPU finish up the season series tomorrow at Horenberger Field with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
