Titans Notch CCIW Win Over Elmhurst

First CCIW win of the season for the Titans

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team notched its first win in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin of the season, as IWU bested Elmhurst University 7-2, Sunday April 18. The Titans are now 1-4 in the conference and 7-6 overall while the Bluejays sit similarly at 1-4 in the CCIW and 1-6 overall.

The Titans took wins at No. 1, 2, 3, and 6 singles and also swept all three matches in doubles. At No. 1 doubles junior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) and sophomore Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) collected their seventh win as a pair after defeating the Bluejays 8-6. Traintafel also won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Burk took the win at No. 2 singles to win both sets, 6-3.

In just their second time playing together, junior Justin Piotrowski (Palatin, Ill.-Fremd) and freshman Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) collected their first win at No. 2 doubles, 8-5. At No. 3 doubles senior Dylan Mikaili (Naperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley) and freshman Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) won their first match as a duo, 8-5. McCoy and Mikaili also took wins at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.

The Titans will play at home for one last regular season match against Millikin University, date and time are still undetermined.
