Titans Trounce Spartans to Remain Unbeaten in CCIW Play

DUBUQUE, Iowa -
The University of Dubuque was no match for the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team Saturday, April 17, as the Titans trounced the Spartans, 26-6, at Oyen Field. With the win, IWU jumped to 9-1 on the year and remained unbeaten in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at 4-0. Dubuque was downed to 4-7, 0-3 in the CCIW with the loss.


The Green and White outscored UD 12-3 in the first period, including the game's first three goals, and never looked back en route to the lopsided victory. 

Charles Hildestad (Carlock, Ill.-St. Viator) paced Illinois Wesleyan with seven goals, to go along with four ground balls. Junior Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) added four goals and an assist, while sophomore Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) and Tanner Nelson (Hatfield, Pa.-North Penn) added two goals and two assists each. Sophomore Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), the reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week, scored once and tallied a career-best seven assists. 

Defensively, Jaren Vance (Milwaukee, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and Zeke Kalmes (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) registered two caused turnovers apiece, and Zac Taylor (Brighton, Mich.-Brighton) picked up a match-high 14 ground balls while going 26-for-33 at the X.

In goal, senior Will Harris (Bloomington, Minn.-Holy Angels), freshman Ethan Hare (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory), and junior Thomas Laduzinsky (Geneva, Ill.-Wheaton Academy) all saw time between the pipes. Harris got the start, making two saves, and earned the win, while Hare and Laduzinsky split time in the second half. Hare made seven saves and Laduzinsky notched three.

Illinois Wesleyan hits the road for the final time in the regular season Saturday, April 24, when the Titans travel to Elmhurst for a 1 p.m. start.
