Men’s Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight Against Firebirds

Titans are 3-0 in the CCIW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team battled Carthage College in a downpour 17-11 victory Saturday, April 10 inside Tucci Stadium. The Titans continued their perfect College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin start, moving to 3-0 in league games, and improved to 8-1 on the year. The Firebirds are 1-1 in the CCIW, and knocked to 7-2 overall.

The Titans were led by junior Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and sophomore Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) who had a game-high six points. Smith collected five goals and one assist while Carson Kiichle registered one goal and five assists.

Finding themselves in a two goal deficit at the half, IWU's second half charge fueled the Titans to a three-goal unanswered run to start the third period.

Only 45 seconds into the third, a goal from junior Smith ignited just what the Titans needed. Sophomore Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) followed close behind with his first goal of the game to tie the game 6-6. Smith put up another goal to take IWU's first lead of the day 7-6.

Three more goals were added to the board for the Green and White courtesy of Smith and junior Charles Hildestad (Carlock, Ill.-St.Viator) as the Titans flipped the switch and ended the third up 10-8.

The Firebirds squeezed in a goal to start the fourth quarter before a goal from Jaxon Henderickson (British Columbia, Canada-Westtown) kept the Titan lead 11-9. IWU never looked back, widening the lead 15-9. Both teams registered two more goals in the fourth, to end the game in a Titan 17-11 victory.

The Titans head to Dubuque University next week Saturday, April 17 for a 11:30 a.m. start.
