Baseball Heads to STL for Three-Game Series with No. 7 WashU

Titans enter the weekend 3-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team travels south for a three-game set with seventh-ranked Washington University in St. Louis this weekend, March 6-7. The Titans and Bears will play a doubleheader Saturday, followed by a single game Sunday. First pitch both days is scheduled for noon.

Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend 3-0 following a sweep of Greenville to begin the season. The strong start to the year saw senior pitcher Quinn Gudaitis (Arlington Heights, Ill.-John Hersey) earn NCBWA Pitcher of the Week Honorable Mention, while he and Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) garnered spots on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

This weekend's games will be the first for the Bears, who entered the season ranked and currently hold the seventh spot in the NCBWA Top-25 poll. WashU finished a shortened 2020 season with a 9-3 record.

IWU is led offensively by Ranneklev, freshman Will Kafer (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal West), and juniors Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffins) and Jack Schneider (Naperville, Ill.-Benet Academy). Ranneklev is the team's lead in batting average (.533), and has a team-best eight hits to his name. Kafer is close behind him, hitting .500 on the season with six hits and three RBIs. DiLello and Schneider are tied for the team-lead with five RBIs, while DiLello and freshman Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) have each belted home runs this season.

On the mound, Gudaitis, and seniors Evan Hill (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township) and Brady Hough (Germantown Hills, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) have picked up wins for the Titans and all hold earned run averages of 0.00. Guidaitis has a team-high 10 strikeouts over a team-leading six innings of work. Hough has four punch outs in three innings pitched.
