Baseball Treks North for Twin Bill with Wheaton

First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Pfund Stadium

WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will continue conference play at Wheaton College Saturday, March 27. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Wheaton's Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream, Ill.

Illinois Wesleyan holds a 7-6 record and sits at 2-3 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. IWU dropped its midweek matchup with Millikin, 8-3, March 24. Wheaton owns a 5-4 overall record and is a perfect 3-0 in league play. The Thunder have won four straight, including a 10-5 win over Carthage on the road, March 24.

The Titans have been led by freshman Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) and junior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) at the plate. Cyrus is hitting a team-best .415 at the dish, with 17 hits and two home runs, as well as a team-high 15 RBIs. Ranneklev boasts a batting average of .407 and is the team's hits leader with 22. 

Illinois Wesleyan has seen Quinn Gudaitis (Arlington Heights, Ill.-John Hersey) get off to a strong start on the mound. The senior hurler holds an earned run average of 1.61 and has struck out 41 over 28 innings pitched. Fellow senior Dan Trudeau (Mokena, Ill.-Mount Carmel) has made five relief appearances. In 10 innings of work he has compiled an ERA of 1.80 with seven punchouts.

As a team, IWU owns a batting average of .295, while Wheaton's team average comes in at .294. The Titans have a team earned run average of 4.38 to the Thunder's 6.27 ERA. Illinois Wesleyan's pitching staff has also combined for 125 strikeouts, while Wheaton has fanned 72.
