Baseball Welcomes North Park to Horenberger for CCIW Opener

First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team dips into College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play as it continues its homestand against North Park University Tuesday, March 16. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan is 5-3 on the season after sweeping a doubleheader against Wartburg, March 13. The Titans took game one 13-10 before walking-off against the Knights, 6-5, in the night cap. North Park boasts a 4-0 record, with all four wins coming against Dominican. 

IWU has gone 22-15 against NPU since the 2010 season, including winning three of four in 2019. Illinois Wesleyan came out on top in a CCIW Tournament game against the Vikings the last meeting between the two conference foes May 10, 2019. The Green and White held off a late-inning rally by the Vikings as Quinn Gudaitis (Arlington Heights, Ill.-John Hersey) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs, both unearned, and striking out 10.

The Titans are led by Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South), Ethan Burgh (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect), and Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Neuqua Valley). Cyrus is hitting a team-best .478 at the plate and leads the team with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Burgh is boasting a .455 batting average and is tied with Ranneklev for the team lead with 15 hits. Ranneklev, who is hitting .441, is second on the team in runs scored (10), while his six extra-base hits are the most by a Titan this season.

On the mound, Gudaitis holds a 1.29 earned run average. He has struck out a team-best 20 over 14.0 innings, while allowing just two earned runs. Brady Hough (Germantown Hills, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame), Joe Prestamer (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln Way East), and Nick Watson (Normal, Ill.-Normal West), who have each made relief appearances, have combined to hold opponents scoreless over six innings. The trio has combined for seven strikeouts and has allowed just one hit this season coming out of the bullpen.
