Men’s Tennis Split Matches Against Webster and Principia

The Titans advance to a 4-1 record

ELSAH, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team battled Webster University and Principia College in non-conference match-ups Saturday Feb. 20. The Titans defeated the Gorloks 8-1 and took a 9-0 setback against the Panthers.

Against the Gorloks, the Titans took wins at No 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles and swept all three matches in doubles. Senior Dylan Mikaili (Napperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley) led the Titans taking both sets 6-0 in his No. 6 matchup. Sophomore Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) and freshman Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) both went 6-0 and 6-1 against the competition, while Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and Tim Hughes (Springfield,Ill.-Springfield) also collected wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. 

The freshmen duo Turnbull and McCoy put up an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. Burk and Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) fought to a 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, and Mikaili and Hughes wrapped it up for the Titans with a 8-3 victory. 

IWU men's tennis returns home next weekend Saturday, Feb. 26 in a dual-match against Illinois College slated for 6:30 p.m.
