BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Coming off a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Regular Season Championship-clinching sweep, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team is gearing up for a postseason run. The Titans, who earned the No. 1 seed and home court advantage throughout the tournament, will play host to the CCIW semifinal match against fifth-seeded Millikin University Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.
IWU comes into conference tournament play sitting at 17-12 (7-1 CCIW), while the Big Blue boast an overall record of 21-10 (5-3 CCIW) after narrowly escaping the quarterfinal match against Wheaton College in a highly contested five-set match. MU holds a slight all-time series edge over the Green and White, 28-25. The two teams last met just over a month ago, Oct. 1, where the Titans swept the then 20th-ranked Big Blue by set scores of 28-26, 25-12, 25-19.
As an offense, Illinois Wesleyan tops the conference in assists with 11.66 per set and has accumulated a total of 1,201 assists for the year. In the Green and White's 6-2 scheme, senior Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) and freshman
Ava Porada (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) have combined 1,012 assists. Corey has 531 assists, while Porada has notched 481.
Additionally, IWU leads the CCIW with 12.43 kills per set. Senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont) tops the team with her team-leading 277 kills. Senior
Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill. - Wheaton St. Francis) and junior
Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill. - Sandburg) have racked up 200 and 135 kills, respectively.
Defensively, the Green and White finished second in the conference in digs per set with 16.92. Sophomore Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill. - Sacred Heart-Griffin) leads with her team-leading 286 digs. McCall and senior
Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill. - Normal U High) round out IWU's top three with 257 and 240 digs, respectively.
As of Oct. 31, McAuliffe ranks ninth in all of Division III in total blocks with her 107 blocks and checks in at 25th in blocks per set with 1.04.
IWU has also seen success at the service line with 182 service aces. Corey leads the team with 38 aces. McCall has notched 32 and Porada has accumulated 31 aces.
With a win, the Green and While will host the CCIW Championship match against the winner of the other semifinal match which features No. 6 North Park and No. 2 Carthage Saturday, Nov. 6th inside the Shirk Center.
