Swim and Dive Finish Second in IWU Invite

Gilbert led the Titans with two solo wins

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished second in the IWU Invite inside Fort Natatorium Saturday, Nov. 20. The men's team posted an overall score of 87 to sit in between WashU (123) and Principia (19). The women finished with a second-place score of 82 as WashU left with the win (123) and Principia rounded out the invite in third with 25 points.

The Titans were led by Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) who recorded the only wins for the Green and White. The senior saw success in the 200 yard freestyle touching in at 1:58.35, a season-best. She also clocked in a first-place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:17.44, which is the fastest time by a Titan this season. In addition to Gilbert's two wins she also recorded a second-place standing in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.17).

Sophomore Hannah Murray (West Chicago, Ill.-St. Charles East) represented the Titans in the 200 free with a season-best time of 2:00.13 to earn second place in the event. Murray also added another second place result in the 50 yard free touching in at 25.78.

For the men, Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield) placed second in the 500 yard free with a season-best time of 4:51.63. With his time, McCauley now leads the men's squad with the top-three fastest times of the 2021-22 campaign.

Also adding top-three finishes for Illinois Wesleyan were Megan Wong (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township) and Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community). Wong placed third in the 200 yard individual medley, while Lowder picked up a third-place finish in the 50 yard free.

The Titans return to action at the Carthage Classic hosted by Carthage College Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4 in Kenosha Wis.
