Women’s Volleyball Set to Tangle with Cardinals

Pink night for Breast Cancer Awareness

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team is set to continue its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin slate as the Green and White host North Central College Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. inside the Shirk Center. The Titans return to action with a 9-9 overall record (3-1 CCIW). The Cardinals travel to Bloomington with a 6-4 record (2-1 CCIW). 

Wednesday's match will serve as IWU's annual Pink Game. There will be a donation bin to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. All funds will be combined with the women's basketball Pink Zone game in February, with all donations going to the local cancer center.

The Green and White have a 22-13 overall record against the Cardinals, which includes a current five-match winning streak. These two teams last squared off Oct. 9, 2019 in which IWU defeated NCC in five sets. The Titans last loss against North Central occurred Nov. 5, 2014. 

Illinois Wesleyan last saw the court Friday, Oct. 1 defeating CCIW foe and 20th-ranked Millikin University in straight sets (28-26, 25-12, 25-19) on the Big Blue's home court. 

For the season, senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont) leads Illinois Wesleyan with 179 kills and 66 blocks. McAuliffe has a cumulative hitting percentage north of .300 with a .317 clip and has hit .426 over her last two matches. 

Senior Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill. - Wheaton St. Francis) is second on the team with 115 kills. Junior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill. - Sandburg) has produced 112, which is good for third on the team. Junior Grace Sanders (Bloomington, Ill - Bloomington) is fourth on the team as she has notched 104 kills. Sophomore Maddie Dryfhout (Orland Park, Ill. - Chicago Christain) rounds out the top five with 86 kills. 

Senior Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill. - Normal U High) has produced the most digs on the team with 186. Sanders and McCall have accumulated 179 and 147 digs, respectively. Sophomore Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill. - Sacred Heart-Griffin) is enjoying a second half surge that has propelled her to 130 digs for the season, while senior Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) has 127 digs.

The setting duo that features Corey and freshman Ava Porada (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) have accounted for 652 total assists for the year. Corey has 364 assists to go along with her team leading 25 service aces. Porada has 306 assists and 23 service aces for the year.
