Men’s Soccer Sees Win Streak Snapped by Carthage on Senior Day

Titans will be the No. 3 seed in next week’s CCIW Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team saw its win streak snapped by Carthage College Saturday, Oct. 30, at Neis Field. The Titans fell to the Firebirds 2-0, to finish the regular season with a 6-8-1 overall record and a 5-3 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin record. Carthage finished its season 12-6-2 and 3-4-1 in the CCIW.

IWU recognized its nine seniors before kickoff as Brett Sprengel (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Barrington), Austin Woodside (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), Trevor Martin (San Diego, Calif.-St. Augustine), Donovan Malone (Houston, Texas-St. Pius X), Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central), Ryan Aten (Oswego, Ill.-Oswego East), Keegan Wahlgren (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook), Logan Servin (Milton, Wis.-Milton), and Ryan Bull (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) played at Neis Field for the final time in their careers.

The Firebirds scored in the third and 45th minutes to take control, 2-nil, after one half of play.

Despite manufacturing seven second-half corner kicks and matching Carthage shot-for-shot, 10-10, the Titans could not find the back of the net. The loss snapped IWU's four-game win streak.

Illinois Wesleyan will be the No. 3 seed in next week's CCIW Tournament and will travel to No. 2 seeded North Central College for a semifinal bout. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
