BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team hits the road one last time in regular season play for a battle with Millikin University at 7:30 p.m. in Decatur, Ill. The Titans are 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Big Blue sit at 1-4-1 in the CCIW.
The Titans are on a three-game winning streak starting with a 5-2 win over Augustana College Oct. 16. This past week the Green and White continued its streak with a 3-0 win over Elmhurst University, Oct. 20, and a 2-1 victory over Carroll University, Oct. 23.
Freshman Ethan Fineman (Highland Park, Ill.-Highland Park) was tabbed the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, announced Tuesday, Oct. 26. Fineman picked up his first shutout with the 3-0 win over Elmhurst where he was credited with a career-high four saves as the backbone in the Titans defense. During the match with the Pioneers, Highland Park, Ill. native made two saves en route to earning the win. He now sits third in the CCIW in goals against average (.880) over five games.
IWU and Millikin have an all-time series of 18-21-2, with Millikin holding the slight advantage dating back to the 1986 season. In the early seasons Millikin held a larger advantage with a 15-4-1 all-time series from 1986-2000, but since then IWU has put together a 14-6-1 record against the Big Blue.
The last time the two teams met was in the 2020 season where they played twice. The Titans split games with Millikin, who took the first game 1-0 April 7, 2021, before the Green and White overpowered the Big Blue 3-0 in the second match April 16, 2021.
