Men’s Soccer Hosts Elmhurst for CCIW Clash

Titans play at home for the second to last time in regular season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team hosts Elmhurst University in its second to last regular season home game of the season Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The Titans are now 3-7-1 overall and 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Elmhurst enters Neis Field with an overall record of 7-5-2 and 3-1-1 in the CCIW. 

Senior Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) earned his first CCIW weekly award, announced Tuesday, Oct. 18. The senior led the Titans against North Central College in shots and shots on goal with four and two, respectively Wednesday, Oct. 13. The senior also scored two goals in the Titans 5-2 win over Augustana Saturday, Oct. 16, a career-high. 

Freshman Justin Hart (Morton, Ill.-Morton) and sophomore CJ Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif.-Dos Pueblos) both picked up their first career goals during the Titans 5-2 win over Augie. Hart, who has played and started in the Titans' 11 games so far as a center back, put one behind the Augie's keeper from a set piece. Rodrgiuez scored one of the quickest goals to date after he beat the Augie goalkeeper just 22 seconds into the match. Rodriguez also picked up an assist against the Vikings. 

Similarly, the Bluejays last game was against Augie Wednesday, Oct. 13 as they defeated the Vikings 2-0. 

The Titans and Bluejays have an all-time series of 8-7-3 dating back to the 2004 season. IWU has seen Elmhurst every year since the 2004 campaign. This unit has played a part in the Titans success over the Bluejays, dating back to the 2016 season IWU is 4-0-1 against Elmhurst. The latest contest between the two teams was in the unconventional 2020 season, where the Titans went on to defeat the Bluejays 5-3, Mar. 27, 2021.
