BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will head to Eau Claire, Wis. to participate in the UW-Eau Claire Tournament over a two-day period, Oct. 15-16. The Green and White face off against Finlandia University Friday, Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 16 against UW-La Crosse at 11 a.m. and No. 12 UW-Eau Claire at 1:30 p.m.
The Titans last saw the court Wednesday, Oct. 13 as they squared off against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Carroll University. IWU defeated the Pioneers in four sets (15-25, 25-13, 25-18, 27-25) to boost the teams overall record to 12-10 (5-1 CCIW) and earn head coach Kim Nelson-Brown her 500th career win.
Finlandia enters this tournament with an overall record of 9-10, and will take on the Titans for just the second time ever. The only other meeting came Oct. 5, 2001 that ended in a straight set sweep for the Titans.
UW-La Crosse enters tournament play with an overall record of 16-6. The Eagles own a slight 10-7 advantage over Illinois Wesleyan in the all-time series. Recent history has favored UW-La Crosse as it has won the previous four matchups. IWU's last win came Sept. 9, 2011 in straight sets.
Tournament host, No. 12 UW-Eau Claire enters the weekend with an impressive record of 19-3. The Blugold's possess a 7-2 edge in the previous nine meetings against IWU. These two teams last met Oct. 25, 2019 that saw Eau Claire win a highly contested five set match. The Titans' last win came Oct. 21, 2017 in straight sets.
The Green and White's offensive attack is led by senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont) who leads the team in kills (219) and blocks (91). Her 219 kills are good for eighth in the conference. The Lemont, Ill. native leads the CCIW in blocks with 1.11 blocks per set. McAuliffe's 3.35 points per set puts her in sixth place in the conference standings.
Senior Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) has accumulated 424 assists for the season. Her 5.17 assists per set is eighth best in the CCIW. She has also emerged as quite an offensive threat as of late, as she has averaged 2.5 kills per set over IWU's last four matches.
Sophomore Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill. - Sacred Heart-Griffin) has manufactured 197 digs for the Titans, which equates to 3.79 digs per set. This clip is good for seventh best in the conference.
