Women’s Soccer Conquers Cardinals 2-1

Peters and Peck led the Titans in scoring

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team handed North Central College its first conference loss of the season with a 2-1 win Wednesday, Oct. 13. The Titans moved to 5-6-1 overall and 3-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Cardinals dipped to 8-5-1 and similarly to the Green and White 3-1 in the CCIW.

The Titans had the attacking advantage, outshooting NCC 9-3 (5-2 SOG) in the first half. However, NCC was able to hold off the Green and White for the first 45 as both teams walked into the locker room scoreless.

An exciting second half saw first-time goalscorer and center back, Maggie Peters (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) place an upper-90 ball past the Cardinal goalkeeper from almost 33 yards out. The junior picked up her first career goal to put the Titans up 1-0 with around 22 minutes remaining.

From a Titan throw in, deep in the Cardinals half senior Erin Peck (Wheaton, Ill.- Wheaton St. Francis) widened the lead 2-0 for the Titans. Peck picked up her first goal of the season from an assist by senior Heather Dietrich (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo), her second of the season.

Up with a 2-0 lead, the Titans were taken back as the Cardinals net its only goal of the night with 10 minutes remaining in the match. As the 90 minute buzzer sounded, Peck's game-winning goal was enough to solidify the 2-1 win.

The Titans will celebrate its seniors this Saturday, Oct. 16 as they take on Augustana College inside Neis Field at 1 p.m.
