ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Nazareth College 18-7, Wednesday evening, March 11. The Titans (2-5) fell behind 5-0 in the first five minutes and could not erase the deficit in the defeat.
Junior Riley Rooney (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) put IWU on the board at the 23:12 mark in the first half to break the five-goal opening run by Nazareth. Sophomore
Landry Elliot (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet) net two goals, while sophomore
Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and freshman
Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) each tallied one goal apiece in the first.Â
The Titans were held to a pair of second half goals, scored by junior Maggie Torres (Chicago, Ill.-Resurrection Prep College) just 46 seconds after the beginning of the second period and Rooney on an assist from O'Malley at the 9:06 mark.Â
Junior goalkeeper Janaye Godfrey (Hillsboro, Ore.-Lincoln HS) saved 12 shots for the Titans compared to the Gold Flyer's seven. This is the fourth game this season that Godfrey has tallied double-digit saves.
The Titans return home for their next match against Hamline College, Sunday, March 22, with action set to begin at 1 p.m.
