BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team engineered a well-rounded performance in an 88-44 triumph over Carroll University in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play as IWU honored Jack Sikma, Saturday, Feb. 1. The victory for the Titans propelled them to 13-6 overall with a 7-3 record in CCIW competition, while the Pioneers dropped to 9-11 on the season (2-9 CCIW).

Before the game, Sikma was honored with a banner in the rafters with his jersey number recognizing his induction into the Naismith Hall of Fame this past fall.

Illinois Wesleyan outscored Carroll 52-17 in the second half after leading by only nine going into halftime with a 36-27 score. The Titans scored 15 straight points in a little over a three-minute span to extend their lead to 35 to ensure victory. 

After going into halftime with a 36-27 lead, Illinois Wesleyan outscored Carroll 52-17 in the second period to wrap up a 44-point win. It marked IWU's widest margin of victory since Feb. 13, 2019, when the Titans won by 45 over North Park University, 111-66.

Freshman Luke Yoder (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic HS) was the leading scorer for the Titans, finishing with 19 to go along with three assists. Sophomore Matthew Leritz (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University HS) and junior Colin Cheaney (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia)contributed off the bench with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Leritz and junior Doug Wallen (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central) were co-leaders in rebounding, grabbing seven boards each, while sophomore Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University) dished out a game-high five assists.

The Titans finished the game shooting 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the field including 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from downtown. The Pioneers shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the floor and 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from three-point range. IWU held decisive advantages over CU in both fast break points (21-3) and second chance points (14-2). The Titan bench also outscored the Pioneers 45-13, as Leritz, Cheaney, sophomore Cory Noe (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour), senior Bernie Coderre (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor), and freshmen Cody Mitchell (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East), Lucas Heflen (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North), and Samuel Painter (Litchfield, Ill.-Litchfield) each scored for IWU.

Illinois Wesleyan travels to Decatur to face-off against Millikin University, Wednesday, Feb. 5, for their next men's basketball game. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
