BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 18Â Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team scored an early goal, but the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse responded with two tallies of their own to knock off the Titans, 2-1, at Neis Field Saturday, Sept. 7.
Sophomore Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) scored just 14 seconds into the match for the Titans, putting it in the net on a pass from sophomore Erin Peck (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton St. Francis HS). The Eagles responded in the 27th minute to tie the score at 1-1 into the break, before striking for the game-winner 19 seconds into the second half.
IWU outshot UWL 15-7 in the game, with the Titans holding a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Titans also generated four corners in the second half after not having any in the first. Edington led all Titans with six shots, two on target, and junior Cameron Hindel (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia HS) had three shots with two on target. With the loss, Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 1-2-0 on the season while UWL moved to 2-2-0.
The next match for the Titans is at the University of Chicago Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
